Menzies Distribution takes on new territory with travel brochure deliveries

Menzies Distribution has successfully started delivering holiday brochures to travel agents in the north of England following its acquisition of Orbital Marketing Services Group.

The new arrangement with Orbital’s founding business, BP Travel Marketing Services, sees Menzies Distribution deliver approximately 125,000 brochures to 650 travel agents located between Liverpool, Hull, Cumbria and Stoke-on-Trent each week.
BP Travel Marketing Services has always supplied brochures across the whole of the UK, but the switch from a third party haulier to using in-house delivery in the north of England means Menzies Distribution is operating across the north west for the first time. 
Six new members of staff have been employed to help carry out the deliveries alongside existing employees, and all spent a week training before the changeover took place.
Menzies Distribution’s Central Support Manager, Phil Lloyd, said: “Our usual distribution of newspapers and magazines see our vans travel the same route seven days a week in the very early mornings. The delivery routes we are using to reach our travel agents are more changeable, and take place three days a week at a later time. 
“We are really pleased that we have been able to adapt to these changes so quickly and successfully.
“This means Menzies Distribution is operating in new geographical areas and our vans are being used during the day – both factors we hope will bring new opportunities in the future.” 
The new deliveries were introduced in February over a three-week period, starting with the first parcels leaving the company’s Chester depot in week one, followed by Preston and then finally Leeds.
BP Travel Marketing Services’ Operations Director, David Campbell, who helped co-ordinate the transition, said: “The changeover has gone extremely well and deliveries have been made accurately and on time. It’s a new and exciting time for both companies.”
Based in Ashford in Kent, BP Travel Marketing Services supplies more than 4,800 travel agents nationwide and delivers more than 10 million brochures each month.
