Awards recognise Menzies’ commitment to safety

Seven-time RoSPA Gold Medal Winner Menzies Distribution Solutions is recognised as a leader in safety as it strives for quality and compliance throughout its operations.

The health and safety of our people and everyone we interact with is a critical element of Menzies’ drive for continuous improvement of quality and compliance throughout the organisation. We are therefore extremely pleased to have again been recognised as a world-leader in health and safety practice by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Menzies Distribution Solutions has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Medal (seven consecutive Golds) Award in one of the most prestigious and recognised schemes in the world, with almost 2,000 entries every year covering nearly 50 countries and more than 7 million employees. The programme recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. Competitive awards are presented in 20 industry sectors and for specialist areas of health and safety management.

Developing a positive safety culture with maximum employee engagement has been key for Menzies in setting and maintaining high standards. Our Head of Health and Safety (H&S) reports directly to the CEO of the business and is supported by the SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) Team. H&S matters are a regular feature of the CEO’s weekly update to the entire workforce. In addition to reviewing strong evidence of engagement, RoSPA applied careful measurement to specific areas: leadership of H&S by Directors and Managers; access to competent advice and services; effective communication of H&S information beyond the organisation; active monitoring and how it continues to evolve; investigation of problems and lessons learned; accident incident rates and performance measures; and how H&S reviews inform business planning.

Commenting on the organisation’s latest Gold Medal, Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, said:

“Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded. We are thrilled that Menzies Distribution Solutions has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment.”

Separately, Menzies Distribution Solutions is delighted to have achieved further recognition in safety with a prestigious International Safety Council Award from the British Safety Council “for demonstrating a strong commitment to good health and safety management during 2022.” The awards recognise an organisation’s commitment to excellent standards of health, safety and wellbeing management and the business was chosen from a strong field of 975 applicants representing all sectors in the UK, Africa, Asia, India, mainland Europe and the Middle East.

Welcoming these awards Rich Morson, MD at Menzies Distribution Solutions, said:

“Health and safety will always be a top priority for us. We know from experience that it is critical to running a successful and sustainable logistics business. We look forward to continuing our quest for industry-leading health and safety as a major part of work in quality and compliance, helping to deliver best in class service to our customers.”
