DELIVERING SUPPORT AND DRIVING CHANGE

Menzies Distribution is committed to delivering support and driving change for its employees, workplace and the communities in which it lives and works. As a responsible business, we take account of our social, economic and environmental impact, putting people and our planet at the heart of everything we do.

PILLAR OF SUPPORT

Led by our CSR committee, throughout the year we hold, support and participate in a number of sponsored activities to help raise vital funds for our charity partners, by using our creativity and determination to do something beyond our day jobs and give something back.

Our CSR committee invites nominations for charity partners from all around the business. Following the nomination process a new set of charity partners and fundraising plan is launched each year. We have navigated varying pandemic restrictions across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to successfully raise over £25,000, to be shared equally between our 2021 charity partners.

PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF OTHERS

In addition, we use our unique set of capabilities, network, local knowledge and passionate workforce to make an impact in communities, outside of our core charity partner work. We are also proud to support on a global scale, partnering with Transaid.

Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. They focus on professional driver training, transport management systems, and rural access to transport, to solve two of the biggest transport challenges in economically developing countries.

INVENTIVENESS & PASSION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers and operation is the number one priority. To ensure the ongoing protection of our people we had to get creative with our charity support and fundraising activities during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent periods of national and local lockdowns.

The odds may have been stacked against us, but undeterred and even more driven to support during an unprecedented challenge, fundraising initiatives were adapted and switched to a blend of virtual and physical (where possible) to maximise awareness, support and participation across the business.

GOING BEYOND THE DAY JOB

  • Hosted ‘Menzies Has Talent’ – a virtual talent show, showcasing the hidden talents of our employees, judged by representatives from our charity partners and watched virtually by over 100 employees.

  • Launched a ‘Football Frenzy’ in line with the Euro 2020 matches, including a company wide sweepstake, private Fantasy League, Strava challenge, activity sheets and competitions for all of the family to get involved in.

  • Held silent auctions and raffles online and shared in all of our depots across the UK and Ireland to maximise participation and raise awareness.

  • Held a virtual walk, ‘Menzies March the Month’ and ‘Menzies Marathon’, collectively walking virtually to the moon and across the country to our depots.

  • Launched the ‘Wellbeing Club’ using the Strava app, connecting colleagues online and creating a wellbeing community to support a healthy and active lifestyle.

  • Supported ‘Project Wingman’ creating executive lounges for NHS staff to take a well earned break from the stress of the pandemic.

  • Launched our CSR newsletter, Spark, to raise awareness of our charity partners, highlight upcoming fundraising events and celebrate the charitable contributions made by our employees.

  • Promoted countless charity initiatives, events and awareness days internally across the year including; Mental Health Awareness Week, NewstrAid’s Chilly Challenge, NewstrAid’s Carol Service and Brake’s Road Safety Week.

A POSITIVE & LASTING IMPACT

Our support extends beyond fundraising for our charity partners because we know it’s not just the big gestures that make a difference. We are proud to play our role in supporting our communities, ensuring we create a positive and lasting impact across the regions where we live and work, and further, to reach the people that need our support the most. “”

“I wanted to thank your company and all the drivers who have kept us going throughout lockdown. They have provided a service that has helped us all cope with the most difficult of times. As I drove into Oban early one morning I was met by a small fleet of your vans. The first thing that popped into my head was ‘the blue vans of happiness’. Odd you might say, but these deliveries have made many people happy. The drivers have continued to be pleasant and helpful each and every day. Thanks to you all for your service.”
