Menzies Distribution was awarded ‘Gold’ in Supply Chain Excellence at the 2013 ACE Press Awards for its success in fulfilling time-critical deliveries and enhancing sales during the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Eighteen months before the event began, the wholesaler set up a dedicated ‘Games Team’ combining expertise from all divisions of the company in order to mitigate disruption to deliveries and exploit sales opportunities for customers, particularly its 2,300 London-based retailers.
And a decision to bring forward delivery times by an hour during the Olympics enabled the wholesaler to record a 100 per cent delivery rate to all its retailers in the Capital throughout the Games.
Supply Chain Director Mark Cassie, who accepted the award on behalf of Menzies Distribution, said: “The Olympics was a tremendous occasion for London and the rest of the UK, and a real opportunity for our customers. We were determined to work closely with both retailers and publishers to ensure they could achieve maximum sales from the event. This recognition is a credit to my colleagues within Menzies Distribution and indeed everyone from the industry who came together to help make our plans for the Games a success.”
The awards, which were held on Thursday 21 March at The Royal Garden Hotel, London, attracted 10 per cent more entries than in 2011 and were attended by 320 guests from the publishing, distribution and retail industry.
