Menzies Distribution signs the Armed Forces Covenant

Proudly supporting those who serve.

Menzies Distribution is pleased to announce that it has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, recognising the value that serving personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans and military families contribute to its business and to the country.

Many of Menzies’ employees are ex-Forces, with varied backgrounds spanning all three services and bringing experience beyond the obvious areas of logistics, procurement and engineering. Transferable skills gained in the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force are often critical to the company’s operations, reflecting the quality of Services training, a unique ability to work under pressure, solve problems and demonstrating high levels of organisational capability.

Introduced in 2011, the Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly. In signing the Covenant, Menzies pledges to demonstrate its commitment by:

  • Promoting the company as an Armed Forces-friendly organisation to employees, customers, suppliers, contractors and the wider public
  • Supporting the employment of veterans, recognising military skills and qualifications and working with the Career Transition Partnership to support the recruitment of service leavers
  • Granting paid and unpaid leave to employees who are members of the Reserve Forces, supporting annual training, mobilisations and deployment
  • Recognising and supporting national events such as Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance activities.

Commenting on the company’s Armed Forces commitment, Greg Michael, Chief Executive Officer of Menzies Distribution, said:

“Our strong connections to the Armed Forces are highly valued at Menzies, whether they are through serving partners of employees, joiners from the military or current Reservists. We are proud to honour these connections by signing the Covenant and delighted to be part of the extended Armed Forces Community.”

Ray Miller, who joined Menzies as a Planning Manager, holds the rank of Warrant Officer in The Army Reserves Royal Logistic Corps. Ray said:

“Former military personnel and existing Reservists have so much to offer employers. I’m pleased to have used many elements of my Army training, as well as other skills gained while serving, in my time with Menzies. This formal commitment by the company is very good news.”

Amanda-Jane Evenden, HR, Learning & Development Administrator, is married to Roy Evenden, Lance Corporal in the Royal Engineers. She adds:

“Combining a career and a serving partner can be a difficult juggling act. There are others like me in Menzies and it’s great to see the company recognising not only the value of ex-military skills, but also the impact on employees with family members serving in the Forces.”
