Menzies Distribution lives its commitment to supporting former armed services personnel

As a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, Menzies Distribution is committed to promoting the company as an Armed Forces-friendly organisation and supporting the employment of veterans.

In partnership with veteran serviceman Andy Reid MBE, the Standing Tall Foundation and others, we are working to live up to those commitments.

One way is by proactively offering training and employment to those who find themselves in difficult situations. Like ex-servicemen, Kabelo Moeletsi, former Infantry, 3rd Battalion, Yorkshire and Keith Fallon, a former driver in the RAF.

Kabelo’s story saw him reach out to fellow veteran Andy when he found himself out of work. Through his close working partnership with Menzies Distribution, Andy was able to liaise with Fleet & Engineering Manager, Anthony Roe, who Andy had served with in Northern Ireland. Their combined understanding of the needs of veterans enabled them to find Kabelo the right role and put support in place. We are proud to report that Kabelo has settled in well and is successfully training as a shunter driver at our Ellesmere Port depot.

Keith’s story took a similar route and he is now working at our Preston depot, completing his Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) as a Transport Planner.

Kay Simpson, HR Director, said:
“Menzies is both proud and privileged to have a strong forces community within the business, with many veterans, reservists and forces families positively contributing to our workforce. We recognise the challenges that some leaving the armed services can face. Through no fault of their own their lives can quickly turn upside down. Working with Andy, his charity and others we are committed to play our part in supporting ex-service personnel to live a productive life outside of the forces. We’d be pleased to hear from ex-service personnel who are interested in joining our business.”

Kabelo Moeletsi said:
“I’m very grateful to both Andy and Menzies for the support they’ve given me. Ex-service personnel have a lot to offer and I’m looking forward to completing my training and developing my career outside of the services.”

Andy Reid MBE said:
“It’s really satisfying to be able to work with firms like Menzies to make a positive difference to the lives of ex-service personnel like Kabelo and Keith. Far too many are still not getting the support they need, despite having served their country and making huge sacrifices, both visible and invisible. I look forward to continuing to work with Menzies and other like-minded companies to help change things for the better.”
